Why Middle School Orientation

Posted by Brian West on

With the exception of one other phase, the brain changes more than any other time while students are middle schoolers!

If you're an adult - just think back to middle school. Just do it. I get that most of us want to forget that time in our life.  And that's exactly my point.

This phase of life is critical, in my opinion, for faith formation.  Because so much is happening mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually to middle school students,  it's important that whatever strategy we use for faith formation understand these challenges and leverage them for the sake of Christ's Kingdom.

For much of our history, middle school ministry equaled confirmation.  And while confirmation is a part of ministry to middle schoolers, it is far too limited to be our only ministry to middle schoolers.   This is why at Trinity we have 3 different environments:

  1. Confirmation
  2. XP3 - Sunday Morning Small Groups
  3. Events

Each environment is designed with a different purpose for a different end goal. Yet, each environment is underpinned by a drive to make disciples of another generation by infecting and affecting their hearts with the Gospel.

A parent asked me why they needed to attend a middle school ministry orientation.  The short answer is this: the faith formation of your student ought to be your primary endeavor.  And as such, don't you want to know all the ways that we are partnering with YOU to help you achieve this goal?

Our Next Middle School Orientation is Sunday, July 24th at 9:30am in the Youth Lounge.  Any questions, please contact me at
